I always find planning a room from scratch quite daunting. Where do you start with paint colours, finishes, fabrics and furnishings. Add into it that this is for a nursery and you don’t know the baby’s gender, it’s easy to be overwhelmed where to start!
When we progressed through my pregnancy, we knew we weren’t going to find out the gender but we wanted to make a start on the room, so the plan was to keep it neutral and add pops of colour when he/she arrived.
We decided to keep the paintwork neutral and chose Farrow & Ball Ammonite for the walls and Lick White 01 for the panelling. We then left it until Hugo joined us.
The only thing I knew was that I wanted panelling and Roman blinds!
What I did have was one Mamas & Papas blanket that I wanted to use as inspiration for the colour scheme and accessories.
A few months after Hugo was born, Couture Living reached out to work together which was a huge relief! Finally some professionals to help bring our nursery to life. Their beautiful showroom is based in Dewsbury, not too far from us, so we went across for a visit with some accessories in tow!
Rachel, Couture Living’s Manager, had looked at photos of the nursery and pulled lots of lovely ideas together for us. I was amazed how Rachel had really understood our style and pulled looks she thought we would love.
We fell in love with the Scion April Showers fabric and some pom pom trim but we also loved a blue fabric with a tassel trim. I was stuck! Rachel arranged for fabric samples to be delivered to our home so we could see them in the space. That clinched it – we loved the April Showers but put it to a vote on insta and the majority agreed!
The next step was taking measurements. I was paranoid about getting this part wrong but I didn’t need to worry. Graham from Couture visited and took all the measurements so they were perfect!
We also decided to look at adding a motorised roller blind to our kitchen french doors to provide some shade when the boys are playing in there so Graham measured for those too. I’m sure at this point I drove Rachel nuts as I was so indecisive on the fabric but she was so patient!
Rachel then got the blinds into production for us. One thing I really valued was the regular communication from Rachel. The timescales Rachel gave us were always met, if not exceeded and she kept us in the loop throughout.
Then it was time for install! Chris from Couture Living installed the blinds perfectly and was really lovely to have around too – very friendly and efficient.
We are absolutely thrilled with the finished products. The whole process, from fabric samples to measure and installation was a breeze and I can’t recommend Couture Living highly enough.
