Capturing Memories

You know sometimes you make friends in your life who you don’t see often but are always there…well Laura is that friend.

We met about 6 years ago when our paths crossed briefly at work. The minute I met Laura, I was blown away by her creativity and passion to be who you are – she had her own style and right then and there I wanted to be her – such a cool chick!

We drifted when I moved jobs and then we reconnected last year when we realised (through facebook of course!) that we had both brought little boys into the world only a few months apart. Since then we’ve been messenger supporters through breast feeding strikes, work troubles and other parenting highs and lows.

I’ve followed Laura on Instagram for years and her photos always had a creative flair, but I noticed over the last 18 months (since Arthur was born) just how beautiful Laura’s photos were, how she caught the perfect light. It was as if she knew to take the photo minutes before it needed to be taken.

I was over the moon when Laura launched her own Photography business and I didn’t miss a beat in booking us in for a family shoot.

Laura isn’t a ‘white background’ kind of photographer. Laura specialises in natural light photography for portraiture and weddings. It means you get the most amazing photos from being yourself completely – natural, un-posed and enjoying life.

We had our photoshoot in the Summer time in a local woodland. Laura picked the venue and I knew why; it gave Harry the opportunity to run free and let him do his own thing. It worked – straight away Harry was off! Running around, smiling cheekily at Laura and having fun. It’s as if the camera wasn’t there – Laura just knows how to engage with people.

I hate having my photo taken, but this wasn’t like that – it was just us, on a family walk through a woodland, with a lovely sidekick carrying a camera.

We had the BEST morning. So much fun, we didn’t want it to end. But the best was yet to come…when Laura sent me us the photos I cried. The biggest, proudest “that’s my family” tears. As many of my readers/friends know, we waited several years to have Harry and when I looked at the photos it reminded me why we kept going through the tough times – for that moment of utter pride, love and adoration.

Needless to say, these photos are taking pride of place around our home. I’m sure you will agree, they are beautiful (and these are just a few!)

I know this blog post may seem like a long winded way to introduce you to a very talented artist, but I think when you are asking someone to take photos of your family, it’s important to know that it means as much to them as it does to you…that the booking you make contributes to her living her dream and supporting her family…that you are enabling someone to express their creativity in the most beautiful way by capturing the most precious moments in your lives.

I’ve met many photographers over the years and I’ve never seen anything like Laura’s photos. Take a look at her website and you’ll see what I mean:
